Prayer for today . . .
To Those Who Teach The Word NOTE: When you read this prayer, try to imagine hearing my voice as I speakit to you. In this way, the prayer is reactivated, and it is the sameas if I were actually praying for you at that moment.(Just like television prayers are reactivated when you watch them, although the videotape may have been shot years before.)
To those who teach the Word of God to man,
I pray the Lord will guide you in your work,
And keep your feet upon His chosen path.
Be gentle as you teach about the Lord;
His way is easy, and His burden light.
Do not drive off the sheep with loud alarms,
But, rather, bring them back into the fold,
With loving thoughts and words that sing of truth.
While all the Word of God is surely true,
Some parts are more important than the rest.
(The gold has greater value than the bronze.)
And needless disputations cause great harm,
So do not wander off on idle paths.
Teach first things first, and leave the last for last.
The most important teachings are quite clear:
To love the Lord, thy God, with all thy heart;
And then, to love thy neighbor as thyself.
The Lord, Himself, did teach that these come first;
That all the law and prophets hang from these.
And now that He is risen, we are told:
"For God so loved the world, He gave His Son;"
"Believe in Him, and you shall surely live."
So gather now the pearls of greatest price,
And leave the lesser stones along the way.
I pray the Lord will bless you as you teach.
In Jesus' name I pray for you, Amen.
