God's One Law For All Mankind: "LOVE ALL PEOPLE AS YOURSELF."
All Other Rules And Commandments Are Subordinate To This One Law,
And They Must Not Conflict With It.

The Bible states it very clearly, so there can be no possible
misunderstanding: the Law Of Love fulfills the whole Law of God.

THE LAW OF LOVE
_____________________________________________________________

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your
neighbor as yourself." (Galatians 5:14 RSV)
_____________________________________________________________

And who is your neighbor? Everyone is your neighbor. This is shown in the
Parable Of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37, shown below). Therefore,
"Love your neighbor as yourself" really means "Love all people as
yourself," because everyone is our neighbor.
But what about love for God? Doesn't that come first? Yes, but God counts
our love for others as if it were love for Himself. So when we love
others, we are loving Him at the same time. This is shown in the Parable
Of The Sheep And The Goats (Matthew 25:31-46, in the Appendix below). And
we cannot claim to love God until we first love our fellow man.

_____________________________________________________________

If any one says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a
liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen,
cannot love God whom he has not seen. (1 John 4:20 RSV)
_____________________________________________________________

But what about The Ten Commandments? Aren't we supposed to obey them? Yes,
but The Ten Commandments are only an approximation of what God wants from
us. The Pharisees obeyed all of the Ten Commandments, yet God was very
displeased with them because they did not have love. The exact thing God
wants from us is that we should love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
Everything else depends on this.

But what about holiness? Aren't we supposed to avoid improper sex, etc.
and be pure and chaste? Aren't we supposed to deny our physical selves in
order to strengthen our spiritual selves? Maybe so, but our feeble
attempts at being holy do not even come close to God's high standards. To
Him, they are like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). But if we have love for
others, God will overlook a multitude of our sins (1 Peter 4:8). And if we
forgive others of their offenses against us, He will forgive us of our
offenses against Him (Matthew 5:14-15). Love makes everything holy, since
God is love (1 John 4:8, 4:16).

So all of God's requirements for mankind boil down to this one command:
"YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." If you truly do this one thing
only, it is enough. It then doesn't matter if you fall short on some of
the dozens of others. But if you do not do this, all of the others
together are not enough. This is the big one, more important than all the
others combined.

_____________________________________________________________

If you really fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture,
"You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well.
(James 2:8 RSV)
_____________________________________________________________

First Corinthians 13 emphasizes the primacy of love, even over faith
itself.

1 Corinthians 13 (KJC - The King James Bible, Clarified)

The Supreme Importance Of Love

13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have
not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all
mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I
could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing.

13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I
give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profits me nothing.

13:4 Love suffers long, and is kind; love envies not; love vaunts not
itself, is not puffed up,

13:5 Does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily
provoked, thinks no evil;

13:6 Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

13:7 Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things,
endures all things.

13:8 Love never fails: but whether there be prophecies, they shall
fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be
knowledge, it shall vanish away.

13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in
part shall be done away.

13:11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child,
I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish
things.

13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13:13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest
of these is love.

* * *

Other Scriptures also tell us that love for others is the most important
thing.

"Love For Others Fulfills The Law"

Galatians 5:14 (RSV)
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your
neighbor as yourself."

Romans 13:8 (RSV)
Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves
his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

Romans 13:9 (RSV)
The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not
kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other
commandment, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your
neighbor as yourself."

Romans 13:10 (RSV)
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling
of the law.

James 2:8 (RSV)
If you really fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture,
"You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well.

Proverbs 10:12 (RSV)
Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.

1 Peter 4:8 (RSV)
Above all hold unfailing your love for one another, since love
covers a multitude of sins.

The Golden Rule Puts The Law Of Love Into Action
"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to
you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets."
Jesus, as quoted in Matthew 7:12 (KJV)

If we love other people as ourselves, then how should we treat them? We
should treat them exactly as we would like to be treated! This is the
Golden Rule: "Treat others as you would like to be treated." The Golden
Rule puts The Law Of Love into action.
For more about The Golden Rule, please visit The Committee For The Golden
Rule. For specific ways to follow The Golden Rule, please visit The
Twenty-One Greatest Ideas In Human Relations.

Jesus Christ Makes It Possible To Follow The Law of Love
But what about Jesus? Where does Jesus Christ fit into this picture? If
love for neighbor is sufficient, then why do we need to accept Jesus
Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour?
Jesus Christ doesn't "fit into the picture." Jesus Christ IS the picture,
the perfect embodiment of Love.

By our own flawed human nature, it is almost impossible to love our
neighbor as we love ourselves. Maybe some few people can do it, but most
people cannot even come close. But when we accept Jesus Christ as our
Lord, His Holy Spirit enters us and dwells within us, transforming our
flawed nature into a more perfect nature, more like His own. Only then are
we fully able to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.

To accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, please visit
Gateway To Jesus. Then please visit Home Page For The New Christian, where
you will find helpful guidance for starting your new life in the Lord.

Blessings to you in Jesus Christ our Lord!

May the Lord bless this presentation of His holy Word.

APPENDIX: Parable Of The Good Samaritan, which shows that all people
are our neighbor and Parable Of The Sheep And The Goats, which shows
that God counts our love for others as if it were love for Himself.

LUKE 10:25-37 (RSV)

The Good Samaritan
_____________________________________________________________

25
And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test,
saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal
life?"
26
He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you
read?"
27
And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with
all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your
strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as
yourself."
28
And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and
you will live."
29
But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And
who is my neighbor?"
30
Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to
Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and
beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31
Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when
he saw him he passed by on the other side.
32
So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw
him, passed by on the other side.
33
But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was;
and when he saw him, he had compassion,
34
and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil
and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him
to an inn, and took care of him.
35
And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to
the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him; and whatever
more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'
36
Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbor to the
man who fell among the robbers?"
37
He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said
to him, "Go and do likewise."
_____________________________________________________________

MATTHEW 25:31-46 (RSV)

The Sheep And The Goats

_____________________________________________________________

31
"When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the
angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.
32
Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will
separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the
sheep from the goats,
33
and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the
goats at the left.
34
Then the King will say to those at his right hand, 'Come,
O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for
you from the foundation of the world;
35
for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and
you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
36
I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited
me, I was in prison and you came to me.'
37
Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see
thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink?
38
And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or
naked and clothe thee?
39
And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit
thee?'
40
And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as
you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you
did it to me.'
41
Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from
me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the
devil and his angels;
42
for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty
and you gave me no drink,
43
I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you
did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not
visit me.'
44
Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see thee
hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in
prison, and did not minister to thee?'
45
Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did
it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to
me.'
46
And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the
righteous into eternal life."

DEAR LORD AND FATHER OF MANKIND
by John Greenleaf Whittier
Public Domain

Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our foolish ways!
Reclothe us in our rightful mind,
In purer lives thy service find,
In deeper reverence, praise.

In simple trust like theirs who heard
Beside the Syrian sea
The gracious calling of the Lord,
Let us, like them, without a word,
Rise up and follow thee.

O Sabbath rest by Galilee!
O calm of hills above,
Where Jesus knelt to share with thee
The silence of eternity
Interpreted by love !

With that deep hush subduing all
Our words and works that drown
The tender whisper of thy call,
As noiseless let thy blessing fall
As fell thy manna down.

Drop thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of thy peace.

Breathe through the heats of our desire
Thy coolness and thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm!

FEATURING
"Developing Your Relationship With Jesus"
A Continuing Process In The Practical Christian Life

ESTABLISHING THE RELATIONSHIP

The most important single thing you can do in your life is to establish a
personal relationship with Jesus Christ, in which He is your personal Lord
and Saviour, and you are His trusting follower. If you do this one thing,
you will find joy and happiness now and forever. If you do not do this one
thing, you will continue to deprive yourself of the many blessings God has
intended for you to receive. If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your
personal Lord and Saviour, you can do so now at our page =>
http://www.jesusdirect.net

This is the prayer for you to pray . . .

"Lord Jesus, I give myself to You, for You to be my only Lord and
Saviour. I renounce and repudiate all other loyalties, and
I desire no other Lord but You. Please come into me and
take control of my life. Mold me to Your will and to Your
use. I ask that You drive out all other spirits which conflict
with You in any way. I want to belong only to You, to be subject
only to You. I make this prayer to You, in Your name, the name of
Jesus. Amen."

AFFIRMING THE RELATIONSHIP

This is "The Lord's Prayer," an essential element in the life of a
practical Christian. We recommend that you pray this at least once a day,
and more often if needed. (Details at
http://www.internetchurchofchrist.org/lordsprayer.html)

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Source: Book Of Common Prayer, based on Matthew 6:9-13

This is "The Apostles' Creed," a tried-and-true item to help keep you on
the right path. We recommened that you recite this once a day. (Details at
http://www.internetchurchofchrist.org/pearl-apostlescreed.html)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit;
Born of the virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried;
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven
And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit;
The holy catholic church; *
The communion of saints;
The forgiveness of sins;
The resurrection of the body;
And the life everlasting.
Amen.

* Note: "catholic church" here means the entire body of
believers in Christ, not just one particular church.

LIVING THE RELATIONSHIP

Try constantly to get more Holy Spirit into you.
In each Christian, the amount of Holy Spirit in us ebbs and flows,
sometimes more, sometimes less. The Holy Spirit is not simply "in us" or
"not in us." Once He is in us, we can be "more filled" with Him at some
times, "less filled" at others. As Christians, we love God and we want to
be filled with Him as much as possible all the time. So how do we do this?
How do we become more filled with the Holy Spirit?
The Bible identifies three ways:

Ask Him For More Of Himself

"If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to
your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give
the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (Luke 11:13 RSV)

Act To Attract Him, Not To Grieve Him And Drive Him Away

"And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were
sealed for the day of redemption." (Ephesians 4:30 RSV)

Partake Of Holy Communion

"He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in
me, and I in him." (John 6:56 RSV)

"Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and
blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples
and said, "Take, eat; this is my body."
(Matthew 26:26 RSV

Also see =>
http://www.internetchurchofchrist.org/pearl-holycommunion.html

God wants us to love Him and seek Him. If we ask for more of Him, He will
give it. In general, sin grieves the Holy Spirit and drives Him away. Love
pleases the Holy Spirit and attracts Him to us. When we please the Holy
Spirit, we draw Him into us in greater measure. Holy Communion is
extremely important, directly commanded by Jesus. We don't know how, but
it works to infuse us with more Holy Spirit.

For details, please see "How To Get More Holy Spirit" at =>
http://www.internetchurchofchrist.org/pearl-getmoreholyspirit.html

Follow "The Law Of Love," which is, "Love all people as yourself."
The Bible states it very clearly, so there can be no possible
misunderstanding:

_____________________________________________________________

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your
neighbor as yourself." (Galatians 5:14 RSV)
_____________________________________________________________

And who is your neighbor? Everyone is your neighbor. This is shown in the
parable of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37).
But what about love for God? Doesn't that come first? Yes, but God accepts
our love for others as if it were love for Himself. So when we love
others, we are loving Him at the same time. This is shown in the Parable
Of The Sheep And The Goats (Matthew 25:31-46).

But what about The Ten Commandments? Aren't we supposed to obey them? Yes,
but The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-20) are only an approximation of
what God wants from us. The Pharisees obeyed all of the Ten Commandments,
yet God was very displeased with them because they did not have love. The
exact thing God wants from us is that we should love all people as we love
ourselves. Everything else is subordinate to this.

Most Christians will recognize The Great Commandment as "Love God with all
your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself." If we realize that
everyone is our neighbor and that God accepts our love for others as if it
were love for Himself, then we find that "LOVE ALL PEOPLE AS YOURSELF" now
has become the simplest and clearest expression of God's basic law for all
Mankind!

"But how can we love all people as we love ourselves?," you may say. "It
goes against Human Nature, doesn't it? Most of us want to love ourselves
first, and our loved ones second, and everybody else not at all, right?"

Yes, it does go against Human Nature, which is seriously flawed to begin
with. And this is the root of all the problems we encounter in the world.
But God has provided a simple way for us to upgrade our flawed Human
Nature, by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, and filling
ourselves with His Holy Spirit. When we do this, our own desire is
transformed into God's desire, and we naturally want to do all things in
accordance with His basic law.

You can find and accept Jesus Christ right now at =>
http://www.internetchurchofchrist.org/jesusdirect.html
For more about The Law Of Love, please see =>
http://www.internetchurchofchrist.org/godsonelaw.html

Follow "The Golden Rule," which is, "Treat others as you would like to be
treated.""

The Golden Rule is expressed twice in the Bible, and these are its
clearest expressions, in the words of Jesus, translated.

"So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them;
for this is the law and the prophets." (Matthew 7:12 RSV)

"And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them."
(Luke 6:31 RSV)

Properly applied, The Golden Rule provides the best possible solution to
any problem of human relationships.

The easiest way to apply The Golden Rule to real life is to ask yourself
the question "How would you like to be treated in similar circumstances?"
Then treat the other person that way.

BUT: You must also consider the impact of your actions on all other
people, not only those immediately before you. So if you give all of your
time or money to the needy person who asks you for help, you will be
depriving the other people who are depending on you for emotional or
financial support. You should balance your help in order to create the
greatest amount of human happiness.

A successful Golden Rule application will increase total human happiness,
not decrease it.

By following The Golden Rule, you are following The Law Of Love because by
treating others as you would like to be treated, you are loving others as
yourself! See! It all fits together!

Benediction

I pray the Lord that He will lead your path
Away from the temptations all around.
I pray that when temptation lingers near,
The Lord will lead you not into its reach.
But if temptation grabs you as you pass,
I pray the Lord that you will struggle free.
In Jesus' holy name I pray, Amen.

Blessings to you in Jesus Christ our Lord.

DEAR LORD AND FATHER OF MANKIND
by John Greenleaf Whittier
Public Domain

Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our foolish ways!
Reclothe us in our rightful mind,
In purer lives thy service find,
In deeper reverence, praise.

In simple trust like theirs who heard
Beside the Syrian sea
The gracious calling of the Lord,
Let us, like them, without a word,
Rise up and follow thee.

O Sabbath rest by Galilee!
O calm of hills above,
Where Jesus knelt to share with thee
The silence of eternity
Interpreted by love !

With that deep hush subduing all
Our words and works that drown
The tender whisper of thy call,
As noiseless let thy blessing fall
As fell thy manna down.

Drop thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease;
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of thy peace.

Breathe through the heats of our desire
Thy coolness and thy balm;
Let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm!

Exhortation - "Do Not try To Think Too Much"

Do Not Try To Think Too Much

Holy Spirit is prompting me to tell you this: Do not try to think too
much! Your human mind was designed by Him to help you process information
from the material world, not the spiritual. In spiritual matters, you must
let your conscious mind recede and let your spiritual self (your soul)
join with Him to receive information directly. He is really there, Creator
of the universe, and if you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you.

This is not just a sweet-sounding idea, it is the absolute truth. If you
trust in Him, He will guide you, protect you, lead you, comfort you, sleep
with you, stay with you every moment. Anything you need, He will provide.
If you believe and trust. If not, you are more or less on your own. And
good luck!

Basis in Scripture

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine
own understanding." (Proverbs 3:5 KJV)

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will
send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all
things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
(John 14:26 KJV)

"Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you."
(James 4:8a KJV)

"for your Father knoweth what things ye have need
of, before ye ask him." (Matthew 6:8b KJV)

"But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit
of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know
them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Corinthians
2:14 KJV)

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" (Matthew 7:7 KJV)

In the bleak midwinter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter,
Long ago.

Our God, heaven cannot hold him,
Nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth shall flee away
When he comes to reign;
In the bleak midwinter
A stable place sufficed
The Lord God incarnate,
Jesus Christ.

Enough for him, whom Cherubim
Worship night and day
A breast full of milk
And a manger full of hay.
Enough for him, whom angels
Fall down before,
The ox and ass and camel
which adore.

Angels and archangels
May have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim
Thronged the air;
But his mother only,
In her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the Beloved
With a kiss.

What can I give him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb,
If I were a wise man
I would do my part,
Yet what I can I give Him .
Give my heart.

Scriptures and Teachings - "The Birth Of Jesus"

The Birth Of Jesus
As Described In Matthew 1:18-2:23

1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way: When
as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she
was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

1:19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not
willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.

1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the
angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, you son of
David, fear not to take unto you Mary your wife: for that which is
conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and you shall call
his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring
forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being
interpreted is, God with us.

1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel
of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

1:25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her
firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the
days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to
Jerusalem,

2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for
we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

2:3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was
troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

2:4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and
scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be
born.

2:5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for
thus it is written by the prophet,

2:6 And you Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, are not the
least among the princes of Juda: for out of you shall come a Governor,
that shall rule my people Israel.

2:7 Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men,
inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

2:8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search
diligently for the young child; and when you have found him, bring me word
again, that I may come and worship him also.

2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo,
the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and
stood over where the young child was.

2:10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding
great joy.

2:11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the
young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and
when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold,
and frankincense and myrrh.

2:12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should
not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

2:13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the
Lord appears to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child
and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be you there until I bring you
word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

2:14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother
by night, and departed into Egypt:

2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might
be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of
Egypt have I called my son.

2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the
wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent forth, and slew all the children
that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders of it, from two years old
and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the
wise men.

2:17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah
the prophet, saying,

2:18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and
weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would
not be comforted, because they are not.

2:19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord
appears in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

2:20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his
mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the
young child's life.

2:21 And he arose, and took the young child and his
mother, and came into the land of Israel.

2:22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea
in the place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go to there:
notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the
parts of Galilee:

2:23 And he came and dwelled in a city called Nazareth:
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be
called a Nazarene.

Prayer For You - "For You To Render Help When Called Upon"

"For You To Render Help When Called Upon"

The Lord has told us, "Ask. You will receive."
And He wants us to do the same as He:
If someone asks us, we should try to help.
So let His good example be your guide,
And render help when you are called upon.
And sometimes you will clearly have a case,
Where you are being called, but not in words,
But by the situation, close at hand.
In such a case, you know what you should do:
"Give unto others as you would receive."
In Jesus' name I pray for you, Amen.

Exhortation: "My Children, Love One Another!"

"My Children, Love One Another!"

This item is not directly from Scripture, but it comes from a
trusted man of God, St. Jerome, whom God selected to compile the
Latin
Vulgate Bible, which was the authoritative Christian Bible for the
world for many centuries.

It is a story about St. John, writer of the Fourth Gospel and the
Book
of Revelation and the letters 1st, 2nd and 3rd John.

St. Jerome writes that during the last years of St. John's life,
when
he was a very old man, he used always say the same thing to the
faithful: "My children, love one another!" On one occasion he was
asked why he insisted on this, to which he replied: "Because it is
the
Lord's commandment, and if you keep just this commandment, it will
suffice." ("Comm. in Gal.", III, 6, 10).

Luke 1:26-38 (KJV)

1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a
city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of
David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly
favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

1:29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her
mind what manner of salutation this should be.

1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found
favour with God.

1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son,
and shalt call his name JESUS.

1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and
the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his
kingdom there shall be no end.

1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a
man?

1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come
upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore
also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son
of God.

1:36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in
her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

1:38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me
according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
